Is a four-hour work week possible?
Literally, for few founders. But the question is the wrong one. The right question is: which hours of your week can only you do, and which do you do only because you always have? Once the answer is in numbers, the week gets shorter without the company slowing down.
Why does efficiency not shorten the week?
Because a more efficient hour fills up with new work. Faster email means more email. Hours cannot be deleted – they have to move to someone, to a playbook or to automation.
What does a shorter week take?
- A two-week audit. Without it you do not know where the hours come from.
- A buyback rate. It says which hour no longer belongs to you.
- Handovers in the right order. An assistant first, then delivery.
- The perfect week. The grid before the calendar: deep work in the morning, meetings batched, Friday for direction.
- Time off locked in. Holidays and free afternoons into the year before anyone else can take them.

What does a free week look like in practice?
The demo workspace owner's week has four protected mornings for production, decisions in a single batch, training three times a week and a free Friday afternoon. The weekend belongs to family and the outdoors. It is not a four-hour week, but it is a week where every hour has been chosen.
What do I do with the time I buy back?
This is the most important question, which is why the application asks it. If the answer is not written down, freed time fills up with the same work within a week or two. Freedom is not doing less. It is doing better exactly what you want to do.
A shorter work week is not the goal. It is the side effect of every hour being in the right square.
Frequently asked
Is a four-hour work week possible for a founder?
Literally, rarely – but a clearly shorter week is. It comes from handing cheap, draining hours to others and protecting the most productive ones, not from efficiency.
Where do I start if I want a shorter work week?
With a two-week time audit. It shows where the hours go, and the buyback rate says which of them move first.
How do I keep time off free?
By locking it into the year first, before the calendar fills. A preloaded year places holidays and the big rocks first and everything else around them.
